Visiting Basilica St. Thomas in Chennai India
Many interesting stories on the way in the country with a population of more than 1.2 billion souls. From about felt cheated by bajaj driver in Hyderabad, New Delhi and Chennai and also Indians who are not on time, and the simplicity of the Indian leaders.
Chennai city we visited three different cities. A city of 6.7 million people is better in terms of infrastructure, more green than the green environment, and give more color pluralism.
There are Churches, mosques, and Hindu places of worship in several places in Chennai. St. Thomas is located at Jalan Santhom is one of the icons in the city of Chennai. He became one tourist destination.
For Catholics, St. Thomas is a holy place for a pilgrimage. Just below the altar of the church, there is the tomb of Saint Thomas, one of the 12 disciples of Jesus.
Pope John Paul II had prayed at the tomb of St. Thomas in the 1980s. St. Thomas became one of the three most important basilica for Catholics, such as St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican and a basilica in Barcelona, Spain.
St. Thomas was built in 1504 and rebuilt in 1893. It is located on the beach and adjacent to the Temple Kapaleeshwarar. Although St. Thomas is one of the icons of Chennai, the promotion of the area is not segencar other destinations.
As one of the point spread of Catholicism in southern India, normal if the Catholic church in Chennai attended seminary. Monks and nuns were present there.
The whole story of St. Thomas in India is a fraud on the country. Why do you keep repeating it when the object of the vicious fable is to malign Hindus and attack Brahmins. I am really surprised that so-called educated people swallow this piece of communal propaganda without question. Not only Christians do it but Hindus too. It proves the truth of the maxim that if a lie is told often enough it will be accepted as truth.
See http://hamsa.org for the real history. The church was built by the Portuguese after destroying the original Kapaleeswara Temple.
So now we know that the Christians are no better than the Muslims when it come to religious bigotry and communal prejudice.
